Men of the Mountains is a concept fantasy-adventure series following the adventures of Aidan Tanner, a young Mountean (man of the mountains) who lives on a small farming village, Mowbray Mount, and is introduced to Bedelin, leader of the Mountain Riders, a group of Mounteans devoted to finding and destroying lost Divine artifacts. Aidan and his childhood friend Evie join the group in helping to defeat Morag, the last of the five Divine, five ancient celestial beings who founded the world of Everwere and all the beings who inhabit it. The Divine were thought to be extinct but Morag has somehow returned in human form and taken over the Dreadlands under the name of the Dread King, converting the volatile natives of the northern country into his personal army and breaking the peace with the Mountean Kingdoms. The Four Mountain Riders must unlock the secrets of the Divine if they are truly to survive and defeat the upcoming war and prevent the Divine from retaking their rule.

Books[]

The Men of the Mountains saga consists of four stories. The four stories consist of (chronologically) The Book of the Dead, The Lost Children, Forgotten Lands and The War of the Mountains.

Story Title Synopsis
1 The Book of the Dead Aidan's hometown is attacked by the corrupted Heppolyte and his followers. Bedelin and the Mountain Riders helps Aidan defeat Heppolyte but a deadly shadow known as the Hallowdemon is unleashed. It is discovered that only the Other Sword can kill this creature. Using the Book of the Dead, they find Skell, an ancient being, who tells the location of the sword. Retrieving the Other Sword from Havenhill in the Mountean city Dune, Aidan enters a void through the sword and meets the Stranger who helps to fend off a Dracan attack. The Hallowdemon emerges and Evie sacrifices herself in order for the Book to be destroyed and the demon defeated.
2 The Lost Children Aidan meets the entity Gulsi who claims that the Dread King will unleash the colossal being Kreeg onto the city of Duneport. The Mountain Riders must search for a weapon that will defeat Kreeg but face many challenges as Everwere begins to change. The Family, loyal warriors to the Dread King, use the Earth Sword to desolate the city of Peak and awaken Kreeg. Aidan claims the Fire Sword and slays Kreeg with the people of Duneport saved but retreated to the capital Land's Ende.
3 Forgotten Lands The Family strike at Aidan's friends and steal the Fire Sword. Aidan and the Mountain Riders travel to the Forgotten Realms across the perilous sea, to find the long lost Water Sword. In Giant's Country, they claim the sword with the help of Seigfoot's clan. The Son ambushes them on their way back to Angland and kills Jeddeth. Felrin, Bedelin's estranged brother, steals the Water Sword from the group in hope of resurrecting his lost wife. Gulsi enacts her revenge on Aidan by fatally infecting Bedelin.
4 The War of the Mountains Morag has forged all four Ever Swords to create the Ever Sword, a weapon capable of annihilating entire mountains and potentially winning the war. The Alchemist has been kidnapped by the Family and guarded by a Hallowdemon. Aidan defeats the demon but Gulsi appears and kills the Alchemist, the only known maker of the Guls Antidote. Aidan defeats Gulsi with the Other Sword, proving to Aidan that the Stranger has changed. Morag's army descends on Land's Ende. Aidan and the Stranger make a plan to get the Ever Sword to absorb the Other Sword thus poisoning the sword's powers. This proves fatal for Morag as the Stranger, who is his own evolved self, is poiosn to Morag. Aidan is fatally wounded in process and lies watching Otherwere appear around hi sees Evie waiting for him.
